These vintage pin-up playing cards are adorned with the luscious Varga Girls - each posing in a tantalizing way. Each of the girls on the Aces salutes a branch of the U.S. military, and each girl was featured in Esquire magazine in some way. I believe these are from a 1946 card deck but I am not positive.

This is the Vargas 1941 Esquire Pin-up Calendar featuring the artwork of Alberto Vargas. This calendar exhibits some of Alberto Vargas’ Varga Girls as published by Esquire Magazine. In one of these calendar pictures it’s possible that Vargas hoped to evoke the popular Norwegian skating figure Sonja Henie. (Henie won the gold medal for figure skating at the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Winter Olympics. She also starred in several films in the 1930s and 40s.)

This is the 1947 PETTY GIRL Pin-up Calendar featuring the artwork of George Petty. It was presented by TRUE MAGAZINE (”The Man’s Magazine”) for that year. Fawcett Publications’ True magazine is where the Petty Girl began appearing every month as either a centerfold or full-page illustration. The magazine published best-selling Petty Girl calendars in the 1940s that contained some of the Petty’s best work.
